The Virgin Annunciate

Description

The form of a woman standing inside an arched niche is created with vibrant painted and cut glass held in place by dark lines, probably lead, in this vertical stained-glass window. The woman’s body faces us but she turns her face to our left to look down in that direction. She wears a red dress under a blue robe lined with canary yellow. She holds a book in one hand, and her other hand, to our left, is down by her side. Her skin is a yellowish color, and she has long yellow hair with a darker yellow halo. In front of her and to our right is a lectern decorated with intricate scrollwork and floral carvings. The rounded arch behind her is filled with a coral-orange shell. A border with flowers is created with white, yellow, pale pink, red, and light blue glass.
